Starting Workflow for Text Layers
Step 1
Use the plus menu and choose Text Layer.
Step 2
Type into the text field that appears when the new row expands.
Step 3
Choose a font and adjust the text size with the stepper.
Step 4
Set Hue, Sat, and Light for the text color.
Step 5
Use X Pos, Y Pos, Scale, Opacity, and Blend to place the text into the composition.

Practice
Usage tips
Use short text first; large type is easier to place and read during a performance.
Use Blend modes when text should feel embedded in the footage instead of pasted on top.
